Ryan Gosling In Crazy Stupid Love

Ryan Gosling In Crazy Stupid Love

He is back on the big screen this week with not one but two new movies, and they couldn't be more different from each other, as he goes from comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love to action-drama Drive; once again showing his versatility.

So to celebrate Gosling's return to the big screen we take a look at some of his best work:

- The Notebook

Despite being back in 2004 The Notebook remains one of the movies that he best known for as the movie's love story had girls weeping into their hankies all over the world.

He kicked off his career back in 1997 but it was this movie that really announced him as a leading man, as well as a bit of a pin-up!

A poor and passionate young man falls in love with a rich young woman and gives her a sense of freedom. They soon are separated by their social differences.

The movie was an adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel and it struck a chord with romantics everywhere.

- Half Nelson

Gosling may have won a legion of female fans over with the Notebook but it was the critics' turned to be won over in 2006 when he starred in Half Nelson.

An inner-city junior high school teacher with a drug habit forms an unlikely friendship with one of his students after she discovers his secret.

The movie was a huge critical success and Gosling's superb central performance early him his first Best Actor Oscar nomination - losing out to Forest Whitaker for The Last King of Scotland.

He did pick up gongs at the Independent Spirit Awards, Stockholm International Film Festival and National Board of Review Award whilst being nominated at the Screen Actors Guild and Satellite Awards.

- Lars and the Real Girl

Just twelve months later he had the critics raving again with his performance in Lars and the Real Girl, which was directed by Craig Gillespie.

Gosling played Lars Lindstrom, a delusional young guy who strikes up an unconventional relationship with a doll he finds on the Internet.

The movie may have not performed well at the box office but it was a huge hit critically as the Screen Actors Guild and the Golden Globes were just two award ceremonies that rushed to give him more nominations.

- Blue Valentine

It had been a little quiet on the acting front for Gosling until he returned to the big screen earlier this year with Blue Valentine.

Directed by Derek Cianfrance the movie saw Gosling team up with Michelle Williams for this well received romance-drama movie.

The film centred on a contemporary married couple, charting their evolution over a span of years by cross-cutting between time periods.

It was another project that was met with critical acclaim for Gosling as he picked up Best Actor nominations at the Golden Globes, London Film Critics Circle Awards and the Satellite Awards - to name but a few.

- Drive

Drive seems to be already winning over movie fans and critics as it has been met well on the festival circuit- especially in Cannes.

Drive is the story of a Hollywood stunt driver by day (Gosling), a loner by nature, who moonlights as a top-notch getaway driver-for-hire in the criminal underworld.

He finds himself a target for some of LA’s most dangerous men after agreeing to aid the husband of his beautiful neighbour, Irene (Mulligan).

When the job goes dangerously awry, the only way he can keep Irene and her son alive is to do what he does best... Drive!

- Crazy, Stupid, Love

This week sees Gosling also join an all star cast that includes Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone and Kevin Bacon as he tackles comedy head on.

At fortysomething, straight-laced Cal Weaver (Steve Carell) is living the dream--good job, nice house, great kids and marriage to his high school sweetheart.

But when Cal learns that his wife, Emily (Julianne Moore), has cheated on him and wants a divorce, his "perfect" life quickly unravels.

Worse, in today's single world, Cal, who hasn't dated in decades, stands out as the epitome of un-smooth. Now spending his free evenings sulking alone at a local bar, the hapless Cal is taken on as wingman and protege to handsome, thirtysomething player Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling).
