This week sees the release of The Day The Earth Stood Still, a remake of the 1951 sci-fi classic, which follows Klaatu, played by Keanu Reeves, an alien who comes to earth to deliver a warning to mankind.
So it seems that the earth is never safe with all sorts of extra terrestrial beings wanting to take over the planet so, should the situation ever arise, where you find yourself face to face with an alien here are a few tips on how to survive.
Donât just stand there looking at the flying saucers that are hell bent on invading the planet a good old gawp will only result in one thing... death!
Plus donât try and welcome the aliens do you recall all those who went to the top of the Empire State Building in Independence Day did they make it to the end of the film? In a word... no.
However having said that on the odd occasion buddying up is quite possibly a good thing, Elliott found a loyal friend in E. T. Plus this plan also gives you the chance to teach the invading aliens about some of the finer points of humanity.
Watch the people around you are they behaving a little stranger than usual? If so then Iâm afraid they have either been killed and replaced by a clone or are being controlled in some way, Drinking lots of water like in The Faculty also spells trouble.
Don't try and use guns or fighter planes or bombs on the invading spaceship as you should know by know by now that they have no effect on them whatsoever so don not volunteer to jump in a fighter jet to do battle with the enemy. Instead just sit back and wait for the earth's atmosphere to send them packing, it worked in War of the Worlds water also comes in quite handy too.
Despite the above advice sometimes there is nothing for it but out and out war, they want the planet and will do anything to get it, so perhaps keeping an array of weapons under the bed is a reasonably good idea.
In 1995's Species impregnation was the key so watch who you bed ok, they might not be planning for a quick tumble beneath the sheets.
Aliens love ears as a way of getting into the human body to control it so keep well stocked up on ear bud and cotton wool.
And if all else fails stick you head under the pillow and pray that it will all just go away, nine times out of ten it usually does.
The Day the Earth Stood Still is released 12th December
