Toyota have teamed up with fashion brand ‘Undercover’ to create an Aygo X Special Edition just in time for Paris Fashion Week. This stand-out city car comes with a variety of unique styling elements when it goes on sale in the UK.

Fashion and automotive collaborations are not unusual in the car industry, but by working with designer Jun Takahashi and to be inspired by his creative philosophies of non-conformity and breaking stereotypes is an exciting step away from the norm.

Changes on the limited edition Aygo X Undercover include a very unique grey and black two-tone exterior, a solid black finish to the standard-fit 18-inch wheels. Inside there are coral-coloured decals and detailing to the interior, the upholstery is unmistakably ‘Undercover’ with monogrammed seats and eye-catching patterned floor mats.

These unique additions join the exclusive model’s standard equipment list that includes a high-resolution 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, adaptive cruise control, automatic climate control and wireless phone charging.

Speaking about the collaboration to Toyota Motors Europe’s head of styling Tadao Mori, he said he “wanted this collaboration to bring modern fashion to the automotive, but in a way that remained true to the fashion and didn’t compromise, that was why they wanted to work with the UNDERCOVER brand.

Undercover’s Jun Takahashi agreed with this, saying his approach was to look at colour and ideas for how to make everyday details more interesting and unexpected. The example they were very proud of was the floor mats that used a combination of material and colours making them not only practical but eye-catching.

The Aygo X UNDERCOVER will be limited to 5,000 units across Europe, with the UK allocation to be confirmed and will go on sale priced at £20,095.

Like all Aygo X models, under the bonnet is a 1-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine that produces 71 bhp (and 72 DIN hp) at a buzzy 6,000rpm and 93Nm of torque. This is connected to a five-speed manual or automatic transmission that then powers the front wheels – there’s no all-wheel drive option despite its quasi-crossover styling. Performance is 62mph in 14.9 seconds, but the Aygo X counters with a strong 56.5 – 58.8 mpg and a 109 – 110g/km CO2 rating.

About UNDERCOVER Jun Takahashi

UNDERCOVER was founded in 1990 by Jun Takahashi and first became known in the Harajuku underground scene for its unique fusion of art, streetwear, and music subcultures. Later, the brand cultivated synergy with collaborators and found global recognition with high-end fashion in Paris, where it has shown for more than a decade, but has always remained true to the 'rebel' spirit and unique ideology at its core.
