Get the perfect brows with this step-by-step guide

Eyebrows can make or break a look, when shaped properly, they can open and elevate a woman's natural beauty, but when shaped improperly, the outcome is quite the opposite. Well done eyebrows have the power to reshape your entire face.

By hitting all the right notes, you will look pulled together, even with minimal make-up - or even none at all.

Tracie Giles, Semi-permanent make-up artist, offers some tips on helping you find the perfect brow and maintaining it.

Step 1: Start with cleansed brows free of any make-up, visually map out how to make your brows more symmetrical. Remember the arch should be two-thirds of the way along your brow or if your brows are non-existent the arch should fall in a diagonal line from the outside iris of each eye.

Step 2: Use your inner eye as a guide to where your eyebrow should ideally start. Remember though that if your eyes are widely spaced you will need to bring the brows in towards the centre line of your face to balance them.

Conversely if your eyes are to close together you should try to make your brows further apart to harmonise the upper face. A great way of measuring the ideal length of your brows is to hold a brpw pencil/brush diagonaly from the side of your nostril to the outside of your eye. Simply use your eyebrow pencil to place a dot at the placing area (this can be rubbed off later).

Step 3: Brush any hair which you have into a neat, groomed direction.

Step 4: With your pencil just fill in any gaps first with soft pencil strokes on each brow - this is important that you don't try to draw them in one as it will go wrong. Softly use your brush to comb and blend the shape together.

Now you are ready to start 'building your brow'.

Decide where your brow should start from (inner face first), then with soft feathery stroked of the pencil create both sides equal. It is very imporant that you have a sharp pencil and not a blunt one to do this.

Then bother inner sides are as equal as possible then take your drawing out to the arch on each side. Stop and check. Try to give a soft roundness to the arches and try to get them in line with the outer edge of the iris of the eye. You can use a makeup brush or ruler to hold up to check the positioning.

Now extend your drawing to the tail of your brows this is your third section of brow building. It's better to taper the tails and to avoid them being lower in position than the beginning parts of the brows which you have already complete. Also, unless you have a wider face and are a younger woman, avoid making them too long. For an older woman this can be ageing.

Step 5: Snip and trim any long hairs, brushing the hairs up without disturbing your shape. Always trim only the very longs hairs and position your scissors with the tips facing in towards the centre of the face.

Step 6: Simply tweeze away any straggly hairs outside of your perfect brows, setting the shape with a little eyebrow gel.

Now you are good to go. This can take a little time but eyebrows are so important and make the biggest difference to your overall look. They give definition, lift the eyes and are most definitely a current celebrity must have.

To keep the perfect shape or for a little cheat, Tracie Giles can do all this hard work for you by putting in the little extra strokes with permanent makeup and the Hair By Hair Brow Treatment so all you then need to do is tweeze and trim. Your brows will then look professionally perfect everyday 24/7.
