Available now for iOS and Android, Smurfs Epic Run is the result of developers who wanted to mix a 2D runner with a platformer, focusing on quick decision making, path selection and quick timing. Coming to Peyo for permission to immerse the Smurfs characters within this world, permission was granted and the new game was born.
Villain Gargamel is back with a brand new plan to capture all of the Smurfs by casting an evil fog spell, and by the time the player comes into the story it seems his plan has worked, with the whole village gone and the gamer taking on the role of the last Smurf standing.
Over 100 addictive levels are on offer and it won't take long for players to fully envelop themselves within the Smurfs' world. Fan favourites such as Papa Smurf and Smurfette are available to play as at certain times in the game, each bringing their own unique powers to add a new element to gameplay.
Replayability is key when creating a mobile game such as this, and the developers have done a good job here, adding in daily missions through Papa Smurf and a Wheel of Chance, as well as treasure chests that pop up on the World Map.
It's also worth noting that your mission isn't simply to get to the end of each 'run'. In fact, there are three mission objectives in each and every level. The first of course is to make it to the end, whilst the second is to free every Smurf you see along the way, and the third is to collect all of the coins on offer. Completing the run allows you to access the next, whilst collecting the coins and saving all the smurfs unlocks bonus zones and achievements.
Certain levels also force players to make a choice - to take the safe route with low risk but also low reward, or to take the dangerous paths where you may fail, but if you make it through you'll come out with big rewards.
Power-ups also allow you to progress in the form of different coloured potions. It's fun experimenting with the different types of potions to discover what they do - so we'll leave that up to you to find out.
Controls are easy to master but that's not to say the game instantly becomes easy. Early stages may trick you into thinking that this is going to be plain sailing, but stick with it long enough and you'll be challenged no matter your skill level.
Smurfs Epic Run is an essential download for those who value a mobile game which tempts you back whenever you put it down, with brilliant longevity and much to offer.
It's available now in both Android stores and the iOS Store.
