Bonfire Night Punch

Bonfire Night Punch

Brisk breezes and browning leaves mean that Autumn is truly here.

So, as the kids crack out Dad’s old clothes to build the perfect Guy to sit atop the bonfire, make sure you’re prepared with a winter warmer that will keep the adults of the family cheery whilst you  ‘ooh’ and ‘aah’ at the fireworks lighting up the sky.

Serves 10

6 large Bramley apples, unpeeled, cored and diced

1 litre cider

1 tablespoon Splenda granulated sweetener

3 cinnamon sticks

3 star anise

250ml dark rum

Put the cider , apples, sweetner, cinnamon sticks and star anise into a large pan.

Add 1 litre of water and bring to the boil, stirring well.

Turn the heat down and simmer for 1 hour and 15 mins

Pour in the rum and continue to cook for 1 minute or so. Remove from the heat and set aside to cool. Serve either warm or cold - just make sure the mixture doesn’t come to the boil when you reheat it.
