If you can wade through the usual sexism and bigotry that is attached to announcements of this sort, you’ll find a celebration on social media today of Alex Scott becoming the first female host of BBC series, Football Focus.

Making history in doing so, the majority of people took to Twitter to celebrate the move, rather than berating those behind-the-scenes who had made the decision.

Undoubtedly qualified for the position, we’re simply left wondering exactly why it has taken this long to get somebody like Scott into this position.

It’s an opinion shared by many, and for good reason!

On the topic of diversity at the BBC, the broadcaster’s diversity chief has hit out at the writers of Luther - which stars Black actor Idris Elba in the titular role - saying the series “isn’t black enough”.

Part of the reason? Because "he doesn't have any black friends and doesn't eat any Caribbean food”.

Social media users were quick to point out that leaning on stereotypes for a person of colour would be lazy and that a Black character should not be judged in such a way.

It’s also left minorities on Twitter feeling conflicted about whether they would be regarded as “enough” of their heritage.

Meanwhile, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans were celebrating the birthday (April 14th) of fictional character Sam Wilson, otherwise known as Falcon.

As the focus of his own series alongside Sebastian Stan’s The Winter Soldier, in Disney+’s aptly-named original series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, he’s become a more loved superhero of the MCU than ever before.

Will you be joining in with the celebrations?
