Rik Mayall's widow has called for "thoughts and prayers" from fans as he is buried on Thursday (19.06.14).

The late 'Bottom' comedian will be laid to rest in a private funeral later this week and his wife Barbara Robbins has urged fans to join family and friends in saying goodbye to the star, who tragically passed away on June 9.

She said: "Knowing the swell of love you all share with us we would like to let you, the fans, know that we will be having a private family funeral for Rik, as I am sure you will understand.

"We will be burying him at 2pm on Thursday, June 19, if you would like to join us in thoughts and prayer at this time.

"Thank you again for all your love and support to all our family, it brings great strength."

Fans of the legendary comic have rallied to pay tribute to 'The Young Ones' star in the week following his death.

On Sunday (15.06.14), Rik's 2010 World Cup song 'Noble England' - which failed to chart upon its initial release - entered the UK singles chart at number seven after a social media campaign.

Meanwhile, a new petition has called for a memorial bench to be installed in west London's Hammersmith Broadway, where Rik and comedy partner Ade Edmondson filmed the famous title sequence to BBC sitcom 'Bottom'.

The clip sees Rik's character, Richie, punch Ade's Eddie in the groin while they sit on a park bench.
