10 Things I'd Like My Readers To Know About Me By Taylor Adams

To celebrate the release of his new book No Exit, Taylor Adams tells us a little bit more about himself.

I have a Chihuahua.

Her name is Clementine, she weighs 5 pounds, and she’s the watchful guardian of the house.

I also have a ball python.

His name is Winston, he's 4 feet long, and he's only bitten me once.

Winston and Clementine have never met.

And they never will.

The very first book I wrote was "The Train's Worst Day."

I was six, and it was basically the epic story of a train being besieged by one harrowing threat after another. Sort of like Thomas the Train crossed with the violent intensity of EYESHOT. With illustrations by the author.

Every novel I write contains a reference to Bigfoot.

Somewhere, somehow, Bigfoot is always mentioned. This is for my mom.

My day job is in advertising.

9 to 5, I manage advertising accounts for an NBC affiliate in Seattle. Although my novels are full of snipers, ghosts, and rest stop massacres, they all pale next to the true horror of Windows 10.

My girlfriend Jaclyn keeps me grounded.

Ever since college, she's always been my first and last editor. Nothing gets past her. On my first book, she was the only one who caught the correct spelling of Looney Tunes (not "Loony Toons") before release. And she's a lawyer, so arguing with her usually doesn’t work.

I worked on the crew of a Peter Dinklage movie.

It's called "Knights of Badassdom" and it's an epic horror/comedy about live-action role-playing, a 9-foot demon, and the redemptive power of heavy metal. Starring Tyrion Lannister. This is a real movie.

I rewrite obsessively.

Every new draft, I start from scratch with a new Word document, rewriting from the old one. This keeps me focused on every word. NO EXIT went through six full rewrites before it even reached my editor (including one disastrous attempt at present-tense).
