Michael Fassbender does not strike us as a rocker – but according to him, he is exactly that! He says that he likes to pretend that he is a teenager again and mime thrash metal in his flat in London – and think about his memories of when he was in a band! Michael said: When me and my friend Mike had a band I used to have hair down to my chest, ten-hole Dr Martens and combat shorts cut at the knee.” We bet he didn’t look as hot then as he does now. He talked about the kind of music he was into and said: “My favourites were Metallica, Sepultura and anything off Slayer’s Reign In Blood. I love the bit in Seasons In The Abyss by Slayer, and I worked hard to learn Megadeath’s Rust In Peace when I was younger.” In his band – they were only ever booked for one gig – and that didn’t go very well. It was probably not the right setting for them – a country pub at lunchtime – and so it’s understandable as to why they got kicked out for playing Metallica too loud. Michael clearly can realise why it didn’t go so well now, as he agreed and said: “No one wants to hear Metallica at lunch.” Well, some might Michael – unless you were playing it really badly! We’ve seen Michael most recently in the cinema in Prometheus – the film about aliens – but he is also known for taking on challenging roles, like the one in A Dangerous Method. He talked about how he studied for his role and said: “I spent a lot of time with the text, trying to get the rhythms and find the different rhythms and just get a real sort of power over the dialogue because again we’re dealing with a period of time where discourse – especially in the academic world – this was a weapon, and if you’re not in charge of it then you’re going to get destroyed.” Well he does make acting sound a lot more complicated than we thought! Wonder if Jennifer Aniston works on her rom com scripts like that?!
