It was only a matter of time and something that most of us have seen coming for a while – the fact that Madonna is going to have issues controlling her teenage daughter. Lourdes is now 15 – at that age that most parents dread – and it must be even worse for Madonna who was a tear away herself. What can Madge say to Lourdes wearing short skirts when Lourdes can point out some of the revealing outfits that Madonna wore when she was younger. If Madge tries to tell her to stay away from boys then Lourdes has many pop videos that she can point out to her mother. It was last month that Lourdes was spotted smoking in America – at 15, she is 3 years off the legal age to smoke there. Madonna has now said that she is going to toughen up as a parent after seeing photos of Lourdes with the cigarette whilst hanging out with male friends. When asked how she reacted when she saw the photos, Madge revealed that she wasn’t happy. She said: “I'm probably not as tough as I should be. I think I need to be maybe tougher. Every day is a negotiation, but cigarette smoking I'm not very fond of,” It was pointed out to Madonna that although she doesn’t smoke, she puffs on a cigarette in her latest music video for Girl Gone Bad. Madonna said that it was just a prop and didn’t set a bad example and added “Lourdes doesn't get that from me”. Madonna tried to tell us all how hard it is to be Madonna and be a mum. She said: “to be a single mother of four and to work as much as I do, with my life in a kind of metaphorical fish bowl, it's pretty challenging. But so far I've survived with sanity and humour intact.”
