'Gogglebox' star Sandi Bogle has praised new film 'Kindling' for its diversity, and says other movies need to follow suit.
Since finding fame on the Channel 4 show, the 58-year-old actress went on to star in films like ‘Snatching Sanity’, ‘In Two Minds’, and ‘The Gift Musical’, but landing three minor roles were much to Sandi’s surprise, as she didn’t expect to be in them due to a lack of diversity in the film industry.
Speaking at the premiere of British film 'Kindling' at London's Curzon Soho on Tuesday (18.04.23), the South London-born star exclusively told BANG Showbiz: “We need a lot more diversity in films. It’s a change now, it’s a shift and we need this shift.
"I didn’t even think that I was even going to be able to, I’ve done three films already now and I didn’t expect to be actually in it. But you just got to keep pushing, got to keep fighting.
"This is why it’s good to support movies like this ['Kindling'] and other movies. Because this is what we need more of. I support it all the way.
"This country is a melting pot, we have so many good directors and producers in this country that we need to start supporting them more.”
In 2017, Sandi revealed during her stint on ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ that she is related to supermodel Naomi Campbell.
Growing up and watching her cousin Naomi in the spotlight helped her to develop a tough skin and prepare her after being catapulted to fame.
Speaking at the premiere, she said: “I developed a tough skin by ignoring the hate and not reading it. I don’t bother. If you start taking that on board then it's going to start affecting who you are and what you want to achieve. Blank it, don’t read it, ignore it.
"At the end of the day they’ve got nothing better to do in their lives, they’re unhappy and bored and trying to ruin it for everyone else.
You be the better person and bring everyone else up with yourself. Positive vibes only.”
'Kindling' is a poignant British celebration of friendship, based on true events. The film follows a group of young men who return to their hometown to turn their friend Sid’s final summer into a celebration of life, love and friendship while facing mortality.
'Kindling' is made and released in partnership with Movember, and is out at cinemas nationwide and digitally on 21st April. @Kindlingfilm.
