Nathalia Campos believes ‘Love Island’ contestants need to be in a “good head space mentally” to take part in the show because it can be “a lot”.
The operations manager and social media influencer from Brazil was an islander on series eight of the ITV2 dating show.
She entered the villa on day 44, but was dumped just five days later, and despite her brief time on the show, the star made an impact and gained 50,000 followers on Instagram.
But the content creator, 23, believes you must be in a good head space and grow a thick skin to deal with the aftermath of being thrust into the spotlight.
Speaking at the premiere of British film 'Kindling' at London's Curzon Soho on Tuesday (18.04.23), she exclusively told BANG Showbiz: “I’ve had people who weren’t close to me sharing stories, saying they know me, even though they don’t know me, things like that.
“I did get hate comments, you need to be strong. It’s hard, you need to be in a good head space mentally because otherwise it’s a lot.
“Because of the impact I had on the show there was a lot of press, a lot of comments about it. It was hard. I had to stick to my friends and remember who I was.”
Since leaving the show, the star admitted that despite occasionally being recognised, her life has remained fairly the same, and she has been more focused on the business side of things by growing her brand.
Nathalia added: “My life hasn’t changed much to be honest, but I wasn’t there long enough for it to be a life-changing experience.
“I still get recognised, not as often as when I first got out of the show, but I do. The other day I was in the salon and two girls were coming inside just to say hi so it was nice.
"I have been more focused on working on my brand and Instagram and influencing. So now I’m launching my own brand and moving towards being on social media and things like that.”
'Kindling' is a poignant British celebration of friendship, based on true events. The film follows a group of young men who return to their hometown to turn their friend Sid’s final summer into a celebration of life, love and friendship while facing mortality.
'Kindling' is made and released in partnership with Movember, and is out at cinemas nationwide and digitally on 21st April. @Kindlingfilm
