Maria Fowler has allegedly attempted to commit suicide.

The former 'The Only Way is Essex' star spent three days in hospital last week after what friends claim was an attempt on her own life by taking an overdose of pills.

The glamour model - who is dating hockey player James Morgan - is now recovering at home with her mum in Derby.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Maria was feeling at an all-time low. She was facing a lot of personal issues, but James has been there for her.

"She just needs time to recover so she is taking a bit of time out with her mum."

Maria dropped hints about her ordeal last week, updating fans on her whereabouts as well as sharing cryptic song lyrics online.

She wrote on Twitter: "Sorry i haven't tweeted or responded. Have been in hospital am ok l, just a bit poorly. Hopefully will be out later on if not tomorrow x (sic)".

After leaving hospital, she posted: "Finding out who is actually there for you is always a surprise."

"Fake friends are like shadows always near you at your brightest moments, but nowhere to be seen at your darkest hour."

Maria left ITV2 show 'TOWIE' after series three following allegations she had previously worked as an escort. She later opened up about her tough time in the public eye, admitting she had been prescribed anti-depressants after having suicidal thoughts.

The 26-year-old beauty tweeted in the early hours of this morning (28.06.13): "Theres not enough support available,infuriates me. Any physical illnesses are treated with urgency but not those affecting the mind. (sic)"

Maria's former co-star Mario Falcone has also recently confessed he tried to take his own life after splitting from Lucy Mecklenburgh.
