'Doctor Who', alongside other shows such as 'Only Fools and Horses' were among those chosen in Britain's dream television schedule of all time.
30,000 votes were cast by Radio Times' readers, which saw the iconic TV series named as a major favourite, along with documentaries such as Michael Palin's 'Around The World In 80 Days' and long-running children's show 'Blue Peter'.
Ben Preston, Radio Times Editor, said: "Our poll captured the imagination of our readers. Who wouldn't be tempted to stay home for a golden night of British television?"
The editor also expressed his bemusement after children's animation 'Wallace and Gromit' narrowly missed out on the top spot in its category, while 'Fawlty Towers' - which starred John Cleese in the role as rude hotel owner Basil Fawlty - had to settle for runner up in the comedy section.
He added: "Everyone had their say in this poll and the great British public have spoken but am I the only person wondering how 'Wallace and Gromit' and 'Fawlty Towers' didn't win a place in Radio Times Hall of Fame?"
The diverse list acknowledges six decades of British broadcasting but it became apparent the nation favours the classics over new reality show formats such as 'Strictly Come Dancing', which was voted into third place in the entertainment category, while 'The X Factor' was snubbed from the list completely.
