Danny Dyer is fronting a new documentary series about modern men.
The former 'EastEnders' actor is set to travel the UK to find out if guys have lost their identity with the shift away from traditional gender roles, and will also explore the subject of toxic masculinity in '21st Century Man', a two-part programme set to air on Channel 4 later this year.
A source told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre TV column: “This will be new ground for Danny and viewers will see a whole new side to him.
“He’ll still possess his usual bravado, but these are serious issues he’s exploring and he conducts himself accordingly. The look into toxic masculinity is particularly deep. It’s a hugely sensitive documentary all round.”
The former 'Danny Dyer's Deadliest Men' host will also meet male and female victims of domestic abuse at a family centre, and visits a soft play facility to talk to families affected by trauma.
News of the documentary comes just a few days after it was revealed Danny will play a "fictionalised and heightened version of himself" in 'Henpocalypse!', a BBC comedy series about a hen party that is "interrupted" by an apocalypse.
The 45-year-old star said in a statement: “When I saw the pilot for 'Henpocalypse!' I pi***** myself laughing and I was so honoured to be asked to be a part of such an amazing job. You’re all gonna f****** love it – it’s hilarious.”
The plot is "centred around bridezilla Zara whose hen-do is interrupted by the apocalypse. She and her fellow working-class West Midlander hens face a struggle for survival while they wait out the breakdown of human civilisation in an isolated holiday cottage in Wales."
A description continues: "As the nation's favourite geezer Danny Dyer made a big impression on socially awkward Birmingham bridesmaid, Jen. So when she finds herself in a brutal post-apocalyptic world it's Danny Dyer who comes to her in her moment of crisis. Taking on the role of mentor and counsellor, he provides sage advice, psychological insight and weapons training, setting her on the path to her true destiny."
The cast also includes Elizabeth Berrington as Zara’s formidable mother Bernadette, Lucie Shorthouse as demanding bride Zara, Callie Cooke as put upon chief bridesmaid Shelly, Lauren O’Rourke as conspiracy theorist beautician Veena, Kate O’Flynn as one woman disaster area Jen and Ben McGregor as entrepreneurial stripper Drew.
