Clive Myrie is jetting off to Italy for a brand-new BBC show.
The ‘Mastermind’ host will swap the BBC studios for sun-drenched Italian countryside, and the news presenter, 58, couldn’t contain his excitement as he launched an Instagram account to give fans details about his new show ‘Clive Myrie’s Italian Road Trip’.
In a short reel, Clive said: "I want to go on holiday" while sitting inside the studios, and he was then transported to Italy.
He announced: “I’m In Italy ... beautiful”.
The 15-part series, which will debut on May 1, will follow Clive as he embarks on his captivating journey around the country.
The presenter will immerse himself in culture as he learns about the rich history while sampling local cuisine across the nation, including the slopes of Sicily’s Mount Etna and the eternal city of Rome.
He will also divulge the secrets of what makes a Neapolitan pizza so unique and famous, as well the secret ingredients of Italy’s iconic dishes.
Clive said: “I hope viewers enjoy this road trip as much as I have and fall in love with Italy – a place that captured my heart many years ago. It really is one of my favourite holiday destinations, and even after several years of visiting, I always have something new to learn and explore.
“This trip helped me discover places, communities and traditions I'd never come across before and the series is packed with beautiful locations, delicious food and the friendliest people, I hope BBC viewers enjoy the Italian sunshine with me this May.”
Emma Parkins, Executive Producer at Alleycats TV, added: “Clive holidays in Italy every year, but he wanted to go deeper and really threw himself into this adventure - from competing in the Tiramisu World Cup to navigating in a vintage car rally through Prosecco country.
"It was great to travel with him, and we hope that the programme doesn’t only inspire people to visit, but to search for lesser-known locations and get curious about how Italians live too.”
Clive Myrie’s Italian Road Trip starts 1 May, 6.30pm on BBC Two. All episodes will be available on BBC iPlayer.
