Britain's Prince Charles reportedly wants to be financially independent of the state.
It's been suggested the future king would like to end the custom whereby monarchs sign over Crown Estate earnings to the government in exchange for a Sovereign Grant.
Charles thinks his proposed scenario could independently cover most royal costs, especially if he manages to slim down the monarchy.
A source told the Daily Mail newspaper: "William wants to slim it even more."
The speculation comes shortly after Tom Parker Bowles said his stepfather would "make a fantastic king".
Tom said Prince Charles would make a terrific monarch because he is "a man of warmth and intelligence".
Tom said: "I don't give a c**p what anyone in the press says - you know I couldn't care less - he is a man of warmth and intelligence and humanity and I think he will, if it ever happens, he will make a fantastic king."
What's more, Tom revealed his mother, the Duchess of Cornwall, and Prince Charles are as happy as ever at present.
He said: "All you care about with your parents is that they are happy and my mother is exceptionally happy at the moment and I've always adored my stepfather and he's always been a kind and good and lovely man."
