Britain's Prince Charles has promised to deliver a £10 note to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The new grandfather was surprised when well-wisher Amanda Winney handed him a card containing the cash during his visit to the Royal Welsh Show in Mid Wales yesterday (24.07.13), asking him to pass it on to Prince William and Duchess Catherine following the birth of their first child, Prince George Alexander Louis on Monday (22.07.13).

Amanda, 49, pressed the gift into his hand in the hope the royal couple would be able to buy a cuddly toy for the tiny tot, who is third in line to the throne.

According to the MailOnline, the royal fan said: "He took the card, it's absolutely fantastic. It's amazing to meet him. He shouldn't really be here what with the new baby, but duty calls in his case.

''But he took the card and said that he will pass it on, which is fantastic."

The card featured a baby in a cradle on the front and was sealed inside a pale blue envelope.

Charles and his wife Camilla were in good spirits as they attended the agricultural event and were mobbed by fans wishing to congratulate them on the birth of their grandchild.

The 64-year-old royal has only been able to see his grandson once so far, when he was rushed from Leeds to London by helicopter on Tuesday (23.07.13) before having to set off again for his long-standing engagement to visit the Royal Welsh Show.

Upon exiting the private Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital, he enthused how "marvellous" and "wonderful" it was to see the baby.
