Hip-hop mogul Jay-Z has confirmed his upcoming album will be released on 11 September - and he plans to honor the memory of the victims of the New York terrorist attacks with a charity gig.

The rapper's original The Blueprint record was released on 11 September 2001 - the same day nearly 3,000 people were killed in the atrocities in the Big Apple.

The attacks overshadowed the CD's release and the Big Pimpin' hitmaker admits he has purposely chosen the same day to release his latest offering, The Blueprint 3, to mark the "horrible" events which devastated his hometown that fateful day.

Jay-Z is lining up his celebrity pals to put on a star-studded concert to raise money for victims of 9/11.

He says, "It’s the date the first one came out and it was a horrible date in our history. I have a wonderful idea for a show, proceeds are gonna go to charity. You know, just bring it full circle. I have a historic venue in mind, I’m gonna bring some artists out. It’s gonna be big."
