Madonna Lawyer Warns Legal Wrangle May Jeopardise Adoption....
The human rights lawyer who led a legal challenge against Madonna's adoption is warning a new controversy in her bid to become the legal parent of David Banda could spell the end of her chances. On Sunday (05Aug07) the director of Malawi's child welfare services, Penston Kilembe, said he had been barred from travelling to London in May (07) to determine whether Banda can officially be adopted by the Music hitmaker and her husband Guy Ritchie. The couple brought him back to the U.K. from a Malawian orphanage last October (06).He claims Malawi's Minister of Women and Child Development, Kate Kainja, refused his visit because she was angry with Kilembe for obtaining an air ticket and money from Madonna without seeking government approval. And Justin Dzonzi, who has been campaigning to stop the adoption from the start, maintains Madonna may now be forced to return Banda to his native country because Kilembe is the only person authorised to check up on the baby's new home.He says, "The court will not listen to anyone else apart from the one it appointed."The High Court of Malawi appointed Kilembe to visit David Banda in his new home twice before deciding whether Madonna's adoption should be formalised in a hearing next year (08).
