Indigo Road are looking set to become 2010’s brightest new indie/pop band, so as FemaleFirst didn’t want to be left off the ‘cool bus’ we caught up with Belle for a little chat.
So, you're getting ready to release your new single Glory and album Music From a Film, can you tell us a bit about it?
The single Glory is a new collaboration with Indigo road writer, Mark Herbert. We have been somewhat thrown together musically, coming from different bands of different genres but it seems to work.
I feel with the help of my band, husband Richard (who has co produced) and of course Mark, we have a beautiful body of work…Glory being the first to be released.
The new single from that has just been released - why are you releasing that track now?
Glory has a sumptuous feel to it, so has this time of year. The song is spiritual and is a Christmas record without being an obvious Christmas record.
Your previous single, Simple, was widely praised and got a lot of play on BBC in the regions, do you think you can replicate this with the new record?
We are confident that this will do better. We have already had national airplay and that bodes well.
There is a lot of competition in the business today, do you think you have what it takes to give the big names a run for their money?
It’s always difficult, nigh impossible to compete with the major labels. They have a strangle hold on chart music but not necessarily a pulse on interesting, beautiful and worthy music. I think we have what it takes but I’ve seen many wonderful artists struggle to get heard and succeed, so we will just have to keep our fingers crossed I guess!!
So, if you could recommend just one song of yours for us to download so that we want to hear all of your music, what would it be?
Glory!
If I was contemplating coming to your show or sitting at home and watching Big Brother, how would you get me out of the house?
If you want to watch big brother that’s fine, I have been guilty of that (especially in the early months of being a mum, I’m sure other new mums can relate!!) but I’d much rather hang out in a sexy little underground London venue, full of vibes and music…gorgeous!
Many of my best moments have been whilst doing just that. If that doesn’t convince you, I’d offer to buy your booze!
We've got to admit you're a little bit cool, so what advice would you give to someone just starting out, knowing what you know now?
Boring but, work hard, write loads and gig, gig, gig! There’s no easy route, unless perhaps, you are willing to get your baps out!!!
So, if Indigo Road was an acronym what would each letter stand for?
I, Interesting
N, new
D, delicious
I, do I have to do another I?
G, Gorgeous
O, opulent
R, raw
O, another O? surely not?!
A, arghh can’t think, can I shorten to rd?
D, Have made decision to shorten to rd.
If you could only listen to one CD for the rest of your life, what would it be?
That’s a hard one. If I was stuck in the car with my daughter Sylvie, it would have to be The Yeah Yous or The Feeling she bloody loves them. They are cool, she has good taste.
For me, Rachelle Ferrel, First instrument….INCREDIBLE!!! That woman inspired me beyond belief.
Okay, now we want to ask you some random questions (that I robbed off my stepsisters's MySpace page); What were you doing last night at 11?
Sleeping! Had a very late night gigging the previous night, so needed catch up…how very rock n roll!
What are you going to do after this interview?
Pick up my daughter from Pre school, again, terribly rock n roll!!
When was the last time you did something incredibly stupid?
A classic, I literally walked into a lamp post whilst waving to a friend across the road.
If only it was on camera, I could be £250 better of now, courtesy of You’ve been framed.
What's the last film you saw?
Sat up the other night watching ‘The Last King of Scotland’? with Forest Whitaker, crazy and very disturbing stuff.
What's the last thing you bought?
An energy saving bulb, this morning…Oh my god I sound sooo dull. I feel I should change my answers now to come across as music’s bright new young thing!
Haha, no! you did just fine!
