Baxter

Baxter

Baxter are a band who sidestep the current bandwagons carrying the next Joy Division / My Bloody Valentine / MGMT hopefuls and instead deliver their own brand of guitar-led, anthemic pop music. I caught up with the guys (who include a former X Factor prospect) to find out a little bit more…

Hello Baxter, what are you up to?

Scott - We are recovering from of sunstroke  from a weekend at Lodestar Festival,  not too mention several injuries from some none too successful attempts at Unicycling! While also finishing off some new tracks for the album

So, you’re getting ready to release your new EP, End of the World, can you tell us a bit about it?

Jamie - It is really freakin good! After months of arguments and tantrums (and this was just choosing the four songs) we are all really chuffed with it. Each song is very different and gives a good flavour of Baxter (no soup pun intended)

The new single from that, Standing On The Edge Of The Tide is coming out with the EP. Why are you releasing that track now?

Dave - It seemed like logical choice as an introduction; its short, catchy, anthemic and has always gone down a storm live… plus our pr company thought we would get more radio airplay!

There is a lot of competition in the business today, do you think you have what it takes to give the big names a run for their money?

Scott -I think we are great live band who write some great tunes which lots of people are digging right now. I think with the right exposure there is no end to what we could achieve but it’s a tough market. Right now we are cool with just getting our music out there and playing to as many people as possible.

Baxter

So, if you could recommend just one song of yours for us to download so that we want to hear all of your music, what would it be?

Dave - You have just started another band argument.. definitely a choice of four so far!

You have Standing on The edge already so lets knock that one out. Maybe go with End of the World as that’s a really big anthemic track which starts of slow and ends massive..

If I was contemplating coming to your show or sitting at home and watching Big Brother, how would you get me out of the house?

Scott - If you are watching big brother best you stay in the house, To be fair the most exciting thing in this years big brother seems to be watching how quickly dogface is ballooning from ‘high street honey’ to ‘honey monster’!

Baxter gigs are high energy events so not only do you get to check out a good looking band you get a work out as well… its  like a wii fit with a bar

I haven't got a wii fit... Anyway, we’ve got to admit you’re a little bit cool, so what advice would you give to someone just starting out, knowing what you know now?

Jamie -Just stick to what you know, for everyone that hates you someone will think you are the nuts. As long as you believe in your band and your music it doesn’t really matter what everyone else thinks… on the cool side, when in doubt wear shades - instant coolness right in the middle of your face

So, if BAXTER was an acronym what would each letter stand for?

Jamie – there had to be an x in it!
Baxter
A gainst
X factor
Torture
Except
Rhydian

That is lame!

No! I love it! So, if you could only listen to one CD for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Dave - Euuurghh, that is the toughest question ever… I cant even listen to a whole song without moving onto the next one!

Maybe  a classic like Fleetwood Mac – Rumours or maybe something cooler like Sunshine Underground – Raise The Alarm, just in case there are times we want to get our groove on

Baxter

Okay, now we want to ask you some random questions; Tell me about the most terrifying experience of your life…

Dave – As a child and through no fault of my own I fell off a worktop and managed to trap my ‘man parts’ in a drawer which promptly closed as I banged against it ending with me in hospital

Jamie - ow!!

Scott - ow!!!

What’s the most stupid purchase you’ve ever made?

Jamie- last weeks lottery ticket … all the numbers were wrong

Why go to the top of a tall building, only to put money in binoculars and look at things on the ground?

Dave - mmm.. I guess it is way safer  than going to the top of a tall building and throwing the money off – could take someone’s eye out

Scott – you could be perving down girls tops.. I wouldn’t be obviously but you might!

Haha, well thanks for chatting to us, have a great day!
