Alex Roots amazing new video for "Don't Stop Looking" was a youTube sensation this week… it has been the number on most viewed music video & in the top twenty most viewed videos for the UK, racking up ovea whopping 24,610 views. Naturally FemaleFirst were at the front of the queue to have a chat the this super beautiful lady.
Hello there, what are you up to?
At the moment things have been really great for me! I have my single coming out on 7th September so I have made a music video for that, I supported the Sugababes with Dj Ironik recently as well as presenting the 5.19 show for BBC Switch.
I also am doing loads of shows in cool clubs around London and I recently sold out my headline show at the Barfly in Camden! Coming up I am supporting Daniel Merriweather as part of the London Paper Headline Shows. I am having lots of fun just promoting the single, interviews… things like that
So, you’re getting ready to release your new single ‘Don’t Stop Looking’ on 7th September can you tell us a bit about it?
It’s my debut single which I co wrote with Ryan Laubscher. It’s Pop music with a bit of a punky 80’s edge. And you can just expect a fun flirty summer tune out of it really.
Your debut album is due out before the end of the year too. There is a lot of competition in the business today, do you think you have what it takes to give the big names a run for their money?
I think I am dogged enough with that fire in my belly to make it and give them a run for their money yes! I have been working at this for a long time so I am just going to make the most of everything that comes my way and not get too hung up on all the competition around me, if it’s meant to happen it will.
So, if you could recommend just one song of yours from the album for us to download, what would it be?
Right now it would have to be my single Don’t Stop Looking of course! But another recommendation would be Adrenaline Rush…
If I was contemplating coming to your show or sitting at home and watching Big Brother, how would you get me out of the house?
Don’t be a couch potato! Come and see the energy that me and my band put into the performance we have loads of fun and I hope you like my sounds!
We’ve got to admit you’re a little bit cool, so what advice would you give to someone just starting out, knowing what you know now?
Cool?? Me?? Thanks !! I have to say I think of myself as a little bit of a nerd, sitting at my computer with my glasses on and cup of tea! For somebody starting out I would just say always believe in yourself.
At the early stages there will be a lot of people trying to make you into something your not. And people might not see your vision. But if you believe in yourself and stay true to that, if you have got a good enough product or song etc. It will happen.
So, if Alex Roots was an acronym what would each letter stand for?
A is for Affectionate. L is for Loving. E is for excited. X is for a kiss! (I give lots to people I love). R is for romantic. O is for Open. O is for Optimistic. T is for tenacious and S is for straight forward.
If you could only listen to one CD for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Could I make a playlist? So I had loads of different artists on there, that way I wouldn’t drive myself crazy. I would stick a bit of Queen on there, Some Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, The Ting Tings, Avril Lavigne, Cyndi Lauper, The Script, Kings of Leon and maybe MGMT.
Okay, now we want to ask you some random questions (that I robbed off my stepsisters’s MySpace page); What were you doing last night at 11?
On the train coming home from my BIRTHDAY MEALLL!
What are you going to do after this interview?
I’m going to a bbq! If it stops raining anyway….
When was the last time you did something incredibly stupid?
I do something stupid every day probably! But recently I spilt a mug of piping hot tea all over my cream carpet and a bit on myself! I felt pretty stupid when I was on my hands and knees mopping it up!
What’s the last film you saw?
The Ugly Truth
What’s the last thing you bought?
A travelcard! God how boring…..
Aww, I love you! You’re so lovely and I wish you the best of luck in the future!
