New live London dates with seven-piece bandLisbons biggest new musical export arrive in London this month taking time out from putting the finishing touches on their highly anticipated debut album, tentatively titled Black Diamond (label tbc).Despite the fact that they have only one 12 release (Yah!) under their belt here in the UK, the bands unique sound has already made them favourites with critics and DJs alike. Championed by Diplo, M.I.A, the Count of Monte Cristal and Sinden, Buraka also scored FACT MAGAZINEs 12 of the Year for Yah! and were finalists in MTVs New Sound of Europe competition. The wild beats of Angolan Kuduro music have been big in Lisbon clubs since the late 90s and now Buraka Som Sistema - AKA Lil' John, Riot and Conductor have fused it with 21st century electronics to create their own grimey electro ghettotech take on their favourite South West African music. Buraka Som Sistemas lyrics also have a distinctly political edge, referencing the inescapable corruption that goes hand in hand with the presence of diamonds and oil.Buraka Som Sistema have also put together a new music video for their track Sound of Kuduro, which documents of their time in Angola. The track also features MIA and DJ Znobia and is a breathtaking insight into life on the streets in Angola. Check it out here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=4CkXhtw7UNkAnd dont miss the live show!
