The top 40 hottest and most popular artists of 2010 have been compiled by the service, which is a worldwide leader in music discovery.
The band hailing from West London have also made quite a stir beyond the UK, notching up over 11 million scrobbles and ranking second in Last.fm’s global Top 40 behind US newcomer Ke$ha, with her album Animal.
Joining the two in the site’s global Top 10 are more established names such as Eminem, Arcade Fire and Katy Perry. Ke$ha holds her own as one of three female artists in the Top 10, amassing over six million more album listens than the next female artist, Rihanna.
Despite Ke$ha’s global dominance, Mumford & Sons’ Sigh No More was scrobbled almost twice as many times in the UK and joins a further five home-grown artists in the UK Top 10, compared to just three US acts. But while UK artists may have a strong national appreciation, Gorillaz are the only other UK act to make an appearance in Last.fm’s international top 10.
