Amadou & Mariam have confirmed a Main Stage performance at Glastonbury on Sunday 28th June. The appearance will precede the release of a new single ‘Masiteladi’, which comes out through Because Music on 29th June and features a remix from esteemed BBC Radio 1 DJ Rob da Bank.
As previously announced, the duo have been invited to support Blur at their Hyde Park show on 3rd July.
Amadou & Mariam’s new album ‘Welcome to Mali’ topped last year’s Albums of the Year polls. Its predecessor ‘Dimanche à Bamako’ enjoyed similar fanfare, and collectively they have sold almost a million copies worldwide, an unprecedented amount for an African act.
The duo, who embark on a US tour with Coldplay next month, have also confirmed two shows for the Manchester International Festival with the Beating Wing Orchestra, a Manchester Collective made up of migrant and refugee musicians, at the Pavilion Theatre on Tuesday 7th & Wednesday 8th July.
As previously announced, Amadou & Mariam and their artistic director Marc-Antoine Moreau curate the fourth and final monthly residency for African music - ‘L’Afrik C’est Chic’ - at the Jazz Café on Sunday 21st June.
‘L’Afrik C’est Chic’ is an extension of Amadou & Mariam’s work with Africa Express, with Amadou & Mariam inviting very special guests on stage for spontaneous jam sessions in a stripped down/unplugged set.
