When it comes to box office success in 2014, there are a handful of actors that really have been raking in the cash and enjoying huge success.
Now that 2014 is over, we look back at the actors that have brought in the most money at the box office over the last twelve months. And it is all change as Dwayne Johnson, Robert Downey Jr, Steve Carell, Vin Diesel and Sandra Bullock made up the top five this time last year.
- Jennifer Lawrence - $1.4 billion
Jennifer Lawrence's star has rocketed even further in 2014 - if that is even possible - with two major movies under her belt in the form of X-Men: Days of Future Past and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1.
She reprised the role of Mystique in the summer as Days of Future Past hit the big screen, which was the long awaited sequel to the terrific First Class.
The movie was both a critical and commercial success as it grossed over $746 million at the global box office - going on to be the fourth highest grossing movie of the year.
She returned to the role of Katniss Everdeen in the autumn as The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 was released. This was the third film in The Hunger Games film series and was a movie that built up to what promises to be an epic conclusion at the end of the year.
The movie grossed over $696 million and was the ninth most successful film of the year. Lawrence also starred in American Hustle and Serena during 2014.
- Chris Pratt - $1.2 billion
Chris Pratt is an actor who really did make his breakthrough in 2014, with two major movies under his belt that both enjoyed huge success.
He kicked off the year with The Lego Movie - to which he lent his voice - which was directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The movie was a critical smash and a box office hit as it took over $468 million - it was the highest grossing film of the year at the UK box office.
However, it was Guardians of the Galaxy that really put Pratt on the map as he took on the central role of Peter Quill in the new franchise from Marvel.
Guardians of the Galaxy was the second of two Marvel movies in 2014, and went on to be the most successful as it grossed over $772 million - which was to be the second highest grossing movie of the year. A sequel is already in the pipeline.
Pratt also starred in Delivery Man and Her and will be back in Jurassic World later this year, which is set to be one of the biggest movies of 2015.
- Scarlett Johansson - $1.18 billion
Scarlett Johansson is one of the most bankable Hollywood stars, and she proved that this year with success in blockbusters as well as smaller sci-fi films.
She reprised the role of Black Widow in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which was the first of the Marvel movies to hit the big screen in 2014.
The Winter Soldier was one of the first big hits of the year, as it went on to win over the critics and gross in excess of $714 million at the global box office.
Johansson swapped blockbusters for smaller movies later in the year, as she starred in Lucy and Under The Skin. Lucy was one of the sleeper hits of the summer, while many critics were raving with art house sci-fi film Under The Skin. She also appeared in Chef and lent her voice to Her.
Johansson is set to have further box office success this year, as she will be back as Black Widow in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
- Mark Wahlberg - $1 billion
We didn't see too much of Mark Wahlberg on the big screen in 2014, but he did star in the highest grossing movie of the year, which was Transformers: Age of Extinction.
The Transformers franchise was rebooted last summer with Wahlberg taking over the central role of Cade Yeager. The movie saw the actor reunite with director Michael Bay for the first time since Pain & Gain.
The movie went on to be the only film to break the $1 billion barrier at the global box office last year. We also saw the actor star in Lone Survivor earlier in the year.
Wahlberg will be back with The Gambler - which is already out in the U.S. - while Ted 2 is also set to hit the big screen this summer and comes three years after the success of the first movie.
- Chris Evans - $801 million
Chris Evans rounds off the top five after also enjoying success with Captain America: The Winter Solider last year. This was the first time we has seen him in the role since Avengers Assemble - apart from a tiny cameo in Thor - and was his second solo movie.
The Winter Solider was a huge hit and is currently the fourth highest grossing Marvel movie, behind Avengers Assemble, Iron Man 3, and Guardians of the Galaxy.
Evans will be back as Captain America in Avengers: Age of Ultron later this year, which will be one of the biggest movies of 2015. A third Captain America solo film is already in the pipeline and will explore the Civil War storyline from the comics.
As well as The Winter Solider, Evans also enjoyed success with the Snowpiercer, despite not being released everywhere.
Emma Stone, Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Hugh Jackman completed the top ten highest grossing actors of 2014 list.
