Daniel Craig in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Daniel Craig in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Winter is always an exciting time of year at the cinema as there are a whole range of movies that hit the big screen from big budget blockbuster to the more festive themed film.

We have already looked at some of the actresses who will be taking centre stage over the next few weeks and now it’s time to see which actors will be gracing the silver screen.

Daniel Craig - The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

There has been a distressing lack of Daniel Craig on the big screen this year but he will return this Christmas with a movie that won’t exactly get in the festive spirit.

Yes The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo is set to be one of the must see movies this December as Craig teams up with director David Fincher.

The movie will see him take on the role of Mikael Blomkvist in the exciting, if somewhat dark, first instalment of the Millennium Trilogy.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is a movie that we have perhaps not seen Craig in before - but if the early trailers are anything to go by this is set to be a cracker, get it?

Brad Pitt - Moneyball

Another movie that I am really looking forward to is Moneyball and it will see Brad Pitt return to the big screen.

Moneyball, which is based on the true story of Billy Beane as he attempts to assemble a baseball team, is already surrounded in early Oscar whispers and we could be seeing Pitt pick up a Best actor Oscar nod in the new year.

Pitt is a bit like a fine wine he just seems to be getting better with age as, in recent years, and has taken on deeper and more complicated roles - and this looks set to be no different.

He is joined by an all star cast that includes Jonah Hill, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Robin Wright - the movie looks set to be a mix of emotion and humour and I can’t wait!!

Eddie Redmayne - My Week With Marilyn

Brit actor Eddie Redmayne has slowly been making a name for himself in recent year with the likes of Pillars of the Earth and Glorious 39.

But My Week With Marilyn could be the real breakthrough movie that the young actor has been looking for as he takes on the role of Colin Clark - an employee of Sir Laurence Olivier who is befriended by Marilyn Monroe during the production of The Prince and the Showgirl.

The movie sees Redmayne surrounded by a wealth of acting talent and the movie is already winning over the critics.

Joseph Gordon Levitt - 50/50

Joseph Gordon Levitt has been a favourite of mine for some time a somewhat under appreciated actor who always turns in a good performance.

And he is set to deliver another with his new movie 50/50 - a film that has captured the hearts of critics in the States,

Inspired by a true story, a comedy centred on a 27-year-old guy who learns of his cancer diagnosis, and his subsequent struggle to beat the disease.

Director Jonathan Levine and his talented cast, which also includes Seth Rogen and Anna Kendrick, looks set to be an emotional and funny look at a cancer battle.

Michael Shannon - Take Shelter

Michael Shannon is another actor who doesn’t always get the recognition that he deserves but all that looks about to change with his new movie Take Shelter.

The movie and Shannon’s central performance in it has already earnt rave reviews on the festival circuit over recent months, winning over plenty of fans when it played in London back in October.

The next twelve to eighteen months looks set to be big for Shannon as he will be starring in Superman and Take Shelter could be the movie that will kick off all the hype around him.

Robert Downey Jr - Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows

Now I am a huge fan of Robert Downey Jr and I am delighted that he will be back on the big screen next month with Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

The movie sees him reprise the role of the super sleuth, once again teaming up with Jude Law as Watson, two years after the first; but it was a role that brought him a Golden Globe.

While the film once again looks action packed there will be some laugh out loud moments - look out for Downey Jr in a dress.

But having watch the trailer the movie looks to be bigger and better that 2009 and I hope that it has as much success at the box office.
