Jeff Bridges In Crazy Heart

Jeff Bridges In Crazy Heart

Looking at the amazing career of Jeff Bridges through his many great films, including Tron, Jagged Edge, The Fisher King, The Big Lebowski, Iron Man and his latest film Crazy Heart.

His performance in Crazy Heart has been the talk of Hollywood and he is not the smoking hot favourite to scoop the Best Actor Oscar at the weekend.

So to celebrate the release of the movie we take a look back over an incredibly successful career, hard to believe he hasn't got an Oscar already!

Crazy Heart, 2010.

Jeff Bridges stars as the semi-tragic romantic anti-hero Bad Blake a broken-down, hard-living country music singer who's had way too many marriages, far too many years on the road and one too many drinks.

And yet, Bad can't help but reach for salvation with the help of Jean (Maggie Gyllenhaal), a journalist who discovers the real man behind the musician. As he struggles down the road of redemption, Bad learns the hard way just how tough life can be on one man’s crazy heart.

The Men Who Stare at Goats, 2009.

Bridges plays Bill Django, reprising the wandering-hippie persona that he honed to great effect in ‘The Big Lebowski’.

Django is the leader of a group of soldiers who are self-named the ‘Warrior Monks’ - an experimental US military unit in which soldiers are trained to use their psychic powers to win wars.

Iron Man, 2008.

Bridges is both bald and bearded in this film! He plays Obadiah Stane  the right-hand man to weapons industrialist and brilliant inventor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and top executive in Stark Industries who becomes Stark's ruthless nemesis. He turns comic-book villain into a convincing three dimensional character.

The Contender, 2000.

Bridges plays US Democrat President Jackson Evans, in an Oscar nominated supporting role,  who has the difficult task of choosing a new Vice President following the sudden death of the current one.

Bridges plays the role with sensitivity, portraying Evans as a President who uses his natural charm rather than confrontation.

The Big Lebowski, 1998.

Bridges stars as Jeffrey Lebowski, an unemployed Los Angeles slacker and avid bowler, who refers to himself as "The Dude".

This is perhaps Bridges’ most iconic role and has precipitated an annual festival Lebowski Fest - that started in Louisville, Kentucky in 2002 and has since expanded to several other cities.

The film, noted for its idiosyncratic characters, surreal dream sequences, unconventional dialogue, and eclectic soundtrack, has become a cult favorite.

Fearless, 1993.

Bridges plays Max Klein, the survivor of a plane crash, the trauma of which transforms his life. He increasingly attempts to push the boundaries between life and death in his attempt to emotionally reconnect with the world he feels so alien from.

The Fisher King, 1991.

Bridges plays the lead role Jack Lucas a radio talk show host who inadvertently prompts a suicidal caller to commit multiple murders due to his flippantly insensitive on-air comments.

The film documents Lucas’ quest for redemption through helping a homeless man whose wife was murdered by the caller

The Fabulous Baker Boys, 1989.

In this film, Bridges acts alongside his real-life brother, ‘Beau Bridges’, playing two brothers who hire a singer, Michelle Pfeiffer, to improve their Piano act, however tensions soon arise between the brothers as a result of Pfeiffer’s presence.

Starman, 1984.

In this quirky Si-Fi film, Bridges plays an alien who has come to Earth in response to an invitation found on the spaceship. Bridges was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in the film.

The film inspired a short-lived, 1986 television series of the same name which starred Robert Hays and Christopher Daniel Barnes.

Against All Odds, 1984.

Bridges plays Terry Brogan a football player, who is cut from his team. In desperate need of money, Brogan agrees to help old-time friend and shady gambler Jake Wise.

Needless to say, trouble soon ensues. The sound track of this ‘film-noir’ film was nominated for a Grammy Award, and the theme song was nominated for an Academy Award, and was consequently one of the top selling singles of 1984.

Crazt Heart is released 5th March.
