I know that we haven't even seen the end of 2014 yet, but it looks like 2016 is going to be a bumper year for blockbuster films.
We may have a long wait for these films to hit the big screen, but there are a whole host of movies that we are already super excited about here at FemaleFirst.
We take a look at some of the films that are on the 2016 schedule and that are going to be huge at the box office.
- X-Men: Apocalypse - released 19th May 2016
Yesterday it was announced that Bryan Singer WAS in the director's chair for X-Men: Apocalypse - which makes this movie even more exciting.
X-Men: Days of Future Past has been a huge success this summer, and Singer and co have wasted no time in starting working on the next film, which will shoot next year.
While nothing is known about the plot, we do know that James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult will be back as Xavier, Magneto, Mystique, and Beast.
There are also rumours floating around that Hugh Jackman is also on board and we may see a young Jean Grey, Storm, and Cyclops.
There has also been a lot of talk about Channing Tatum taking on the role of Gambit, so we may or may not see him in the film as well.
Michael Dougherty, Simon Kinberg, and Dan Harris are working on the script with Singer and I am super excited to see where they take the story and these characters next.
- Warcraft - released 11th March 2016
I am a huge fan of director Duncan Jones, and I can't wait to see him back in the director's chair with Warcraft.
Warcraft is the latest computer game to be adapted for the big screen, and it is already one of the most anticipated films of 2016.
Jones has been behind films such as Moon and Source Code, but Warcraft is set to be the biggest film of his career to date - he has penned the screenplay as well as being in the director's chair.
Filming has wrapped on the film, which is now in what will be a lengthy post-production.
A great cast has been brought together for the film, as Paula Patton, Travis Fimmel, Dominic Cooper, Ben Foster, and Toby Kebbell are just some of the names on board.
In recent years, we have seen so many computer game adaptations fail critically and commercially, but there is so much anticipation around this film, that it may be the one that bucks the trend.
- Captain America 3 - released 6th May 2016
Marvel has released a series of dates of movie releases over the next few years, but Captain America 3 is one of few projects confirmed.
We saw Chris Evans return to the role earlier this year with The Winter Soldier, and directors Anthony and Joe Russo are already working on the script for the third film.
Of course, all we know is that Chris Evans will be back in the title role, but nothing else is known about the cast list or the plot.
Jeremy Renner seems to have confirmed that Hawkeye will be making an appearance in the film, but the likes of Nick Fury, Falcon, and the Winter Soldier have not been confirmed.
Before we see Captain America 3, the character will be back with Avengers: Age of Ultron and this will give us some idea as to where the next solo movie may go.
The Winter Soldier hit the big screen earlier this year and is one of the most successful films of 2014 so far.
It is great to see the Russo brothers stay with the franchise, and this is one of the 2016 I really can't wait to see.
- Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice - released 25th March 2016
One of the 2016 superhero films we know a little more about is Batman vs Superman, as filming is underway right now.
Batman vs Superman is the sequel to Man of Steel, and will see Zack Snyder back in the director's chair. Henry Cavill is reprising the role of Superman, while we will be introduced to Ben Affleck's Batman for the first time.
This will be the first time that Batman has hit the big screen since The Dark Knight Rises as the franchise is looking to be continued with Affleck at the forefront.
Nothing is known about the plot as of yet, but we do know that we will be seeing Lex Luthor, Wonder Woman and Aquaman.
Jesse Eisenberg, Gal Gadot, and Jason Momoa have bagged those roles, while Amy Adams, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, and Laurence Fishburne are also on board.
Over the next few years, we have really seen marvel take a stranglehold of the superhero film genre, but you do get the feeling that a Justice League movie is not that far away.
- Finding Dory - 29th July 2016
No year is complete without the release of a Pixar movie, and 2016 is going to see Finding Dory hit the big screen.
Yes, Pixar are taking us beneath the waves once again as we are re-introduced to the loveable and forgetful character of Dory.
Andrew Stanton and Angus MacLane have teamed up in the director's chair. Stanton was behind Finding Nemo while MacLane is making his feature film directorial debut with this project.
It is believed that events of Finding Dory will take place a year after Finding Nemo, and will focus on Dory reuniting with her family.
Ellen DeGeneres and Albert Brooks will be back to lend their voices to Dory and Marlin, while Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy, and Ty Burrell are all on board.
Finding Nemo is one of the most successful; Pixar movies of all time - surpassed only by Toy Story 3 - and Finding Dory is set to enjoy similar success.
- Avatar 2 - December 2016
Ever since Avatar hit the big screen back in 2009, there has been a lot of talk about a series of sequels.
Fans of the first film have been super patient, and it looks like 2016 could well be the year that we return to Pandora.
James Cameron will be back in the director's chair for the film, and has been working on the script for some time. It has been announced that there are going to be three sequels to the original film.
While nothing about a possible plot has been released, Cameron has talked about exploring the waters of Pandora in upcoming films.
Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana are set to reprise the role of Jake Sully and Neytiri, but little else is known about the rest of the cast.
- Bourne
We were expecting to see Jeremy Renner reprise the role of Aaron Cross in the 2016 Bourne film, but now it looks like there may have been a change of plan.
In recent week there has been a lot of noise about Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass both entering talks to return to the franchise.
Damon and Greengrass worked together on The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, and Damon has always said he wouldn't return to the franchise without Greengrass.
However, producer Frank Marshall says that work will still move forward on a sequel to Bourne Legacy with Renner.
So, it looks like we could potentially have two different Bourne franchises on the go... are we ever going to see Damon and Renner join forces?
Other movies that will be hitting the big screen in 2016 include Deadpool, Gods of Egypt, Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass, and The Jungle Book: Origins.
