Valentino presented his final ready to wear fashion show at Paris Fashion Week earlier today while Karl Lagerfield reveals he fears his friend will regret his decision.
For his last spring/summer collection Valentino sent out sweet and girly models in flirty cocktail dresses detailed with polka dots and pretty gold bows.
An upbeat 80s feel was created by the thumping Prince soundtrack and blocks of bold colour in abstract graphic patterns.
Fellow designer Karl Lagerfeld chose today to speak out about Valentino's decison to retire next year, saying that he thinks the Italian designer will be bored.
"I am not very pleased because I think it is not good that he's stopping; he is in great shape," Lagerfeld told reporters before the show.
"He should continue. It's no fun, he will be bored," the German designer added.
Valentino shocked the fashion world last month when he announced he would retire in 2008 after having celebrated his 45 years in fashion with three days of star studded parties in Rome in July.
Today was not his final goodbye as Valentino plans to go out with style at January's Paris haute couture week before he heads for retirement.
Valentino had been insisting for months that he had no plans to step down, but the purchase of Valentino Fashion Group,by private equity firm Permira seemed to be the final push. Alessandra Facchinetti, the former designer of Gucci women's ready-to-wear, will replace him next year.
