Editor-in-chief of American Vogue, Anna Wintour has received an OBE for her contribution to British journalism and fashion in America.

The 59-year-old fashion legend said: "It's a great honour, many of my American colleagues are not quite sure what it is.

"I've worked very hard to support British fashion in the States through the exhibition called Anglomania, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (in New York), and my support of designers like Alexander McQueen and John Galliano."

Tough and uncompromising, Wintour is a force to be reckoned with in the fashion world, often seen on the front row of many a fashion show with her trademark bob cut and dramatically dark sunglasses.

Her career high point came when she took the helm of British Vogue and making it a huge success, before travelling to America to become the formidable editor-in-chief she is today.

The film 'The Devil Wears Prada' is thought to have been inspired by her former assistant, Lauren Weisberger's experiences at Vogue.

She later went on to write the best selling book, which was later made into a smash hit movie starring Meryl Streep, although no direct reference to either Vogue or Wintour are ever mentioned.
