Johnny Depp and Marion Cotillard had a sneaky way of keeping secrets on the set of new film Public Enemies - they spoke in French so no one else could understand them.
Depp bonded with the French actress on the set of the gangster movie, and found himself slipping into her mother tongue when he wanted a private conversation.
The actor - who lives in the South of France with his long-term partner Vanessa Paradis and their two children, 10-year-old daughter Lily-Rose and seven-year-old son Jack - admits the pair often communicated in French.
He says, "We would sometimes speak French to each other on the set, especially when we didn’t want anyone else to know what we were saying!"
Public Enemies is Depp's first movie in over a year, since he teamed up with Tim Burton for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
The movie is also the first role of Marion Cotillard since her Best Actress Oscar winning turn as Edith Piaf in La Vie En Rose, it is also her first big English speaking role.
Depp takes on the role of bank robber John Dillinger who became a public hero during the depression of the thirties in America.
Cotillard takes on the role of his lover Bille Frechette.
