National Cheese Fondue Day: What does it mean to dream about a fondue?

A fondue is a dish in which small pieces of food are dunked into a sauce so to dream of one suggests you are dipping your toe into something in your waking hours to try it out for size.

Perhaps you don’t want to commit to something until you’ve had a taster session so you are sampling it to see if it’s a good fit for you. This could be in the form of volunteer work, training or a leisure course at college so before you invest any time and real money into it, you know what you are letting yourself in for.

If it was at your home and there were a lot of people dipping food into the fondue at the same time, perhaps you need to share your spoils with those around you more. Is it your turn to host a family meal or have everyone around? If it is long overdue, it may be time to make a plan.

On the other hand, if all you have done lately is cater for others, the dream might be telling you to hold the invites off for a while and take some time for yourself.

Entertaining can be a lovely way to catch up with one another and see everyone but at the same time if it always falls to you, it may be prudent to let someone else do all the work for a change.

If there were bits of food left in the sauce in the fondue, perhaps there are still memories that make you uncomfortable or something that has been left unresolved in your life. What can you do to get a clean break or to let it go? Perhaps it’s not as bad as you think and you are overreacting- what remains may be perfectly normal.

Consider the type of fondue in your dreamscape- if it was chocolate or cheese you may be indulging a little too much in your waking hours especially if you were eating a lot of the foods and sauce or were scraping out the bowl having eaten it all.

On the other hand, if you were tentatively dipping your skewers into the liquid, you may have found some control over something in your waking hours. Perhaps you are being careful no to overdo things.

Fondues are generally served at parties so consider what you were doing in the dream and the setting. If it was a celebration perhaps you have an occasion to mark or if it was a party, do you need to loosen up and enjoy some time away from work or your responsibilities? If you have been filling your time solely with obligations lately, it might be wise to have some fun to redress the balance in your life.

To dip fruit into chocolate in a fondue implies you are sabotaging yourself in some way- what good you are doing in one sense is totally outweighed by the bad you are doing to yourself in another. Choose a side because you can’t do both.

On the flipside, you may have it just right- you work hard and play hard, you believe the key to a successful life is having a little bit of what you like but only after you have done what is necessary.
