Meet Jack Laidlaw, the original damaged detective. When a young woman is found brutally murdered on Glasgow Green, only Laidlaw stands a chance of finding her murderer from among the hard men, gangland villains and self-made moneymen who lurk in the city's shadows. (Author description) sound bites from crime writers and the press.
Unfortunately, I found the book did not live up to the expectation of the platitudes lavished upon it. I found Laidlow to be too depressing and the authentic (one presumes) Scottish dialect hard to read. As a result I found the book hard going and didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped I would from the hype.
Good crime novel but hard going in places 3*
