Love Island - Fearne Cotton helps cancer charity

11-10-2006 14:48

Love Island's host Fearne Cotton is supporting a new helpline for young people, which national cancer care charity Macmillan Cancer Support makes available this month.

The Macmillan Youth Line provides cancer information and advice to 12 to 21 year olds who have been affected by the disease - whether the person is a patient, relative or pal. It also gives aid to adults who wish to support young individuals who have been touched by cancer in some way.

Fearne, who is an ambassador for the charity is quoted as saying on the Macmillan website:"I know it can be hard to talk to your friends about some things, like cancer. When my Nan was diagnosed I found it hard to deal with and unsure if anyone else would understand. Now there really is no need to suffer alone in silence. If you are worried, regardless of whether you, a friend or family member have cancer, the new Macmillan YouthLine is there to help.

“There's no need to feel awkward about contacting the Macmillan YouthLine, its friendly professional staff provide a free, impartial, and anonymous service so you can feel comfortable discussing your concerns."

Staff who are specially trained, listen to callers and offer guidance in the right help for them - be it a Macmillan service, another body offering information or advice, or a local self help and support unit.
