Shane Richie's suicide mistake

12-02-2007 13:00

Shane Richie sparked fears for his life, after leaving a 'suicide note' in his apartment.

The former 'EastEnders' star's landlady panicked after finding the note on his bed of his Manchester flat.

Not realising it was a prop from his new TV show, she contacted ITV producers to tell them she feared the 41-year-old actor may be going to try to kill himself.

Shane told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "The suicide note was part of a script. But the landlady called the TV company because she was convinced I was going to jump off a bridge or something.

"It really was very funny afterwards when the producers called me to check that everything was OK."

The note read: "This world is too much for me. I can't go on with all the disastrous things that keep happening around me".

The note was a part of the script for ITV comedy-drama 'The Good Samaritan', in which Shane's character contemplates suicide by jumping off a hotel roof.
