Penny pinching Ant and Dec

11-04-2007 12:00

Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly save money by taking their own sandwiches to the football - despite signing a new £40million deal with ITV.

As well as making their own packed lunches, the thrifty duo refuse to phone their pals during peak-rate hours and have shunned credit cards in a bid to avoid falling into debt.

A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "At heart they are working-class boys - and they have never forgotten their roots.

"They realise their success could come to an end at any time and they are terrified they might be left unable to pay back any big credit card bills."

Ant and Dec, both 31, are avid supporters of their hometown's Newcastle United and enjoy watching the team play - but save pennies by taking home-made butties to matches.

The comic pair recently became two top earners on British TV when they signed a mega-bucks deal to be the faces of ITV for the next three years.

The only other person who earns as much is Simon Cowell - and the three will appear together in 'Britain's Got Talent' which airs this June.
