Ned’s imagination is playing tricks on him as he watches Chuck sleep. She appears to wakes up and stumble against Ned, but doesn’t die. They start to kiss and Chuck takes off her clothes and then her skin to reveal that she is really Olive. Ned wakes up from his dream to find Chuck watching him.
At the Pie Hole, Ned begins to talk to Emerson about his dream but he isn’t particularly interested. Meanwhile, Olive confesses to Chuck that she kissed Ned for a second when he rescued her.
Dog breeder Harold Hundin is stabbed to death in his office at the Papen County Kennel Club. The kennel club hires Emerson to solve his murder and Ned resurrects him. Hundin explains that he drank some poisoned coffee, then tripped over the spilled coffee before falling on a sharp dog brush, stabbing himself repeatedly as he continually slipped on the floor. Hundin identifies the poison as cyanide and says his wife had made the coffee for him, and the cyanide taste was disguised by an almond-flavoured creamer.
Emerson investigates Hundin further and determines that Hundin was a polygamist with four wives: Hilary Hundin, who owns a special dog wear fashion company; Heather Hundin, a pet psychologist; Simone Hundin, who runs a dog training and obedience school; and finally Hallie Hundin, who trains dogs for the blind. Each of the Pie Hole gang goes in disguise to see a different wife separately with Digby the dog. Olive talks to Hilary, Ned talks to Heather, Emerson shows Simone that Digby needs training, and Chuck pretends to be blind to speak to Hallie who says that Harold left a note. Simone says she backed over Harold’s dog, Bubblegum, and killed it and that Harold was breeding a special combined breed of dogs - a ‘Col-a-Dor-Russell-Poo’.
Each of the four wives says that they gave Harold his morning coffee before he left for the day. The gang meets back at the Pie Hole but all four wives track them down and want to know about the suicide note that Chuck had accidentally mentioned to Hallie. With all four wives having given Harold a morning coffee it appears that Hallie is the key suspect as she was the only one to give him a coffee with almond-flavoured creamer to cover the taste of the cyanide.
The police arrest Hallie, and Emerson is hired by a blind children's school to prove Hallie is innocent. They talk to Hallie who accuses rival dog breeder Ramsfeld Snuppy. Snuppy has Bubblegum’s ashes and plans to use DNA to clone Bubblegum then distribute the cloned dog through pet shops across the country. It turns out that Harold sold Bubblegum to Snuppy despite his wives’ objections. Emerson talks to the wives to determine why they didn’t mention the DNA dog sale - as this gives all of them a motive for the killing. Simone says they threatened to get an injunction so Snuppy killed Harold and framed Hallie.
In his office, Emerson dozes off and he dreams of Simone wearing a dog collar and he figures that his dream must mean that Bubblegum is still alive. Emerson goes to meet Simone, and Ned decides to go with him, avoiding Olive who wants to talk about their kiss. Hilary comes in to deliver pet clothing and Olive mentions the cloning plan that Snuppy has planned, which Hilary knew nothing about. Emerson confronts Simone and notes that Bubblegum’s collar has changed position each time he’s been there. Simone admits that the dog is still alive but denies killing Harold. However, Simone has been subconsciously training Emerson to follow her orders, and manages to chloroform him.
