Britain's Prince William has had a tribute to his mother, the late Princess Diana, incorporated into a crest.
The prince had a wooden crest produced to mark his appointment to the Knights of the Order of the Garter last month.
William's heraldic symbol, a roaring lion with a red tooth and claw, has had a small red scallop shell, modelled on those in the princess' coat of arms, carved into its collar.
The crest will be mounted above William's seat in St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, alongside other living Knights' crests.
In medieval times crests were worn on top of Knights' helmets in battle and lime wood was light, strong and durable. They are designed to last 1000 years.
The crest was made by sculptor Ian Brennan, who said: "In medieval times crests were worn on top of Knights' helmets in battle and lime wood was light, strong and durable. They are designed to last 1000 years.
"Prince William requested that part of his mother's family crest should be put on his."
However, Clive Cheesman, Rouge Dragon Pursuivant of the College of Arms said the coat of arms will lose the shell with the William becomes Prince of Wales.
