Peter Phillips still in line

2 months ago 01st May 14:00

Britain's Peter Phillips won't have to give up his place in succession to the throne after his fiancee changed her faith.

Canadian Autumn Kelly has renounced Catholicism and has been accepted into the Church of England before her wedding to the queen's grandson on May 17.

The 1701's Act of Settlement prevents any Roman Catholic from ascending the throne.

The act states anyone who marries a "Papist" will be "forever incapable to inherit, possess or enjoy the Crown".

If Autumn hadn't converted, Peter would have had to give up his place as eleventh in line to the throne.

A source revealed: "She was not asked to do this, she did it of her own accord."

The couple, who have been together for four years, are set to marry at St George's Chapel in Windsor.
