Seventeen Evergreen are one music act who is not afraid to experiment with different sounds and different genres when they are making an album, as their latest offering Steady On Scientist! Proves.
And to be quite honest their blend of psychedelic rock with pop and electronic elements really does work a treat, it is unlike any other album that I have heard this year.
However at only eight tracks long this album is a little short and perhaps would be expecting a little more from an album release in terms of content.
The electronic instrumentation, which features heavily on almost every track, gives a real atmospheric feel to every track and the album as a whole.
Because of their experimental nature you never know what is coming with each track, and that makes listening to this rather unique album quite exciting.
Polarity Song is the opening track on the album and it mixes electronic pop with electronic rock as well as a little bit of acoustic guitar thrown in for good measure.
And while it all sounds like a group of elements have been mashed together they all work wonderfully and complement each other beautifully - this really shouldn’t work but it does.
The hushed vocals on all the tracks add even more depth to the atmospheric feeling that the instrumentation provides.
This is not an album where vocals have to be centre stage it is about bring a series of unusual sounds together and finding a way to fit them all together.
Steady On Scientist! Is a album that is not afraid to be different and Caleb Pate and Nephi Evans really are comfortable mixing sounds, genres and instruments together with ease.
This is perhaps one of the most unique sounding albums that you will hear this year and it really is a great listen, shame there’s not just a little more of it.
