Brooklyn’s We Are Augustines follow up the success of their debut UK single ‘Book of James’ with the release of ‘Chapel Song’ on 27th February via Oxcart Records.
The track opens their much anticipated debut album ‘Rise Ye Sunken Ships’, recently awarded Alternative Album of 2011 at iTunes in the US, scheduled for release here in the UK on March 5th.
Dressed with an enchanting rhythm that is accompanied by catchy hooks and horns, new single ‘Chapel Song’ depicts a period of time when the band had overcome a barrage of changes and personal tragedy and push onwards.
Many others have written songs about finding love but few have come closer to writing the perfect song about lost love than We Are Augustines’ singer Billy McCarthy:
"Chapel Song is a song about witnessing an old flame and bride-to-be walk down the aisle to be married.
"So often in life, it is difficult for us to keep a good face on the outside while our insides are burning. Hollow handshakes and blank stares at a wedding sum up the sentiment here."
Chapel Song was accompanied by Matthew Mills’ popular, doggedly romantic video - which McCarthy insists typifies not only their own personal trials but life lessons that inevitably come packaged with them:
"We can’t hold on to our childhood; we can’t hold on to our teen years we can’t even hold on to now. Things are going to go where they’re gonna go.
"Chapel Song was approaching the topic of the end, of impermanence. Part of life is letting things go and I suppose that’s the contradiction of it all - actually writing it down and singing it every night! Even impermanence has a pattern"
