Over the weekend, the new trailer for upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures release The Batman was revealed, as part of this year’s DC FanDome event. In it, audiences got their first look at a weathered Riddler - played by Paul Dano - doing all they can to get under Bruce Wayne’s (Robert Pattinson) skin. You can check out the teaser for yourself below:

An all-new cast comes together for the film alongside the aforementioned names, including Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as Police Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot aka Penguin and, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman.

Director Matt Reeves continues to showcase the extremely dark tone that the upcoming feature will centre around, as Batman does his all to keep the mean streets of Gotham as clean as possible, delivering vigilante justice against the city's criminal underworld. Having previously described the movie as "an almost noir-driven” event, it’s clear that his vision has come to fruition.

Following on in the same vein as the first trailer, we also see as Bruce attempts to solve a mysterious case, with plenty of clues left by Riddler himself, who we only see in passing glimpses that do more than enough to whet the appetite and have us begging for more.

Dano’s interpretation of Riddler looks to be the darkest we have ever seen. Whilst the character has been one of the most eccentric and theatrical of Batman’s rogues gallery, here he instead looks to be in complete control of his psychotic tendencies, revelling in the manipulation and torment that he inflicts upon both Bruce and the wider population of Gotham.

Those who are big supporters of the Bruce and Selina romantic arc which has found its way into many of the most celebrated comic books throughout the decades will also find excitement here, as the two look to share a complicated and passionate relationship in this big screen adaptation.

Farrell’s Penguin also gets some screen time, closing out this latest trailer with a car chase that is undoubtedly going to go down in cinematic history. Though the actor has said he only appears in a handful of scenes, it looks as though he’s going to ensure his impact is felt, even if the star is completely unrecognisable.
