While we all seem to enjoy the blockbuster extravaganza that is so popular at this time of year these movies all come with massive multi-million dollar budgets.

So here at FemaleFirst we looked back at some of cinema's biggest and most successful, or not, blockbusters to uncover which has the biggest budget.

Pirates of the Caribbean

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End currently tops the chart as the most expensive movie ever made with an eye watering $300 million budget.

But this budget was easily made back at the global box office when, despite the mixed reviews, it became the biggest film of 2007 grossing $960 million.

However at World's End was not the only big spending Pirates movie as Dead Man's Chest spent $225 million.

But the second movie in this most unexpected franchise was the most successful and on a kitty of £225 million the film went on to gross over $1 billion at the global box office.

Spiderman

Similarly to Pirates the budgets of the Spiderman movies has steadily grown as the franchise gained momentum.

Spiderman 3 was the most expensive to make with a budget of $285 million, the most expensive of any of the Marvel Comic big screen adaptations.

But the big spending paid off as the film cemented itself as the jewel in Marvel's crown, in terms of box office success, as film fans flocked to the cinema and parted with their hard earned cash as the film grossed over $890 million.

Spiderman 2 was also a big spending affair as it took $200 million to get the script onto the big screen.

Titanic

And of course the biggest grossing film of all time has not been out done in terms of spending costing $200 million to bring the famous ship to the silver screen.

Titanic went on to sail into the record books as it made it's budget back 7.5 times over grossing $1.8 billion.

And newer films are also getting in on the big spending act as this summer's Iron Man had a $140 million budget and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was made for $185 million. But these two films have gone on to become the highest grossing films of the year so far taking $537.8 million and $579.8 million respectfully at the global box office.
