Despite the Christmas cheer, it would seem that increasing numbers of women fear spotting the same dress on another lady when they're out on the town.
Almost 80% of ladies admit 'same dress syndrome' is one of their biggest fears at this time of year, with some even going to great lengths to sabotage the offenders outfit!
New research from TK Maxx, the designer brands-for-less retailer, reveals that one in four women have been the victim of 'same dress syndrome,' (SDS).
Despite 18% of us resorting to drastic measures to ruin the other ladies dress or ensemble, 16% found a creative way to adapt their outfit with anything to hands to avoid the potential embarrassment.
Helen Gunter, TK Maxx spokesperson, said: "People want to feel special in what they are wearing, especially over the festive party season.
"Our research shows that many people are sticking to a £50 party wardrobe budget this year, so to reduce the risk of SDS and make sure your money works hard for you, start by shopping early to give yourself time to discover those special one-off finds that work for you."
When asked about their SDS moment, 41% said that they had managed a polite smile int he face of adversity and 39% taking the high road, walking up to their twin to say hello.
The latter believed to be the way to act if you're sure you're rocking this dress the best, think the Miley Cyrus and Kim Cattrall cringe moment in Sex and the City 2!
"Don’t forget that accessories are also a great way to update items in your wardrobe as well as transform a new outfit into something unique that will make you feel fabulous. Statement pieces like earrings, necklaces, belts, jackets, bags and killer heels ensure you will stand out for all the right reasons, even if SDS strikes!" Helen Gunter added.
