Hang up those heavy wicker picnic baskets, and put away the ginger beer the picnic hamper of the future is set to revolutionise how we enjoy this great British pastime.

From solar panels that allow you to heat up your food as you picnic to a water-filtration system that means you can take advantage of the British rain, to technology that allows you to share your memories on the move; the picnic hamper of 2030 will be the ultimate accessory.

The blueprint has been commissioned by Warburtons to mark National Bread Week (5th – 11th May). The family baker has teamed up with futurologists to predict that in as little as 20 years’ time, we’ll think nothing of turning rainwater into drinkable water or making the load lighter with biodegradable plates. Even growing our own vitamin enriched sandwich fillings in advance of a picnic will be possible - with hydrophonic food kits, soil will no longer be necessary.
