Sopranos star recovers from breast cancer

'The Sopranos' star Edie Falco has recovered from a secret battle with breast cancer.

The actress, who plays mob wife Carmela Soprano in the hit TV series, was diagnosed with the disease in February.

But following treatment, her agent confirmed that she has been given the all clear.

A spokesman told the New York Post newspaper: "Edie was diagnosed, treated and she's fine.

More than five months have gone by since her last treatment and she's very healthy."

Falco decided when she heard about her condition that she wished to keep it to herself, but was afraid that her short hair, a consequence of chemotherapy, would raise suspicions that she'd had cancer.

But with a clean bill of health the star is currently rehearsing for a new Pulitzer Prize winning play called 'Night, Mother' by Marsha Norman.

The production will open on New York's Broadway in October. Falco has also signed up for the sixth season of 'The Sopranos', which starts work early next year.
