Jessica Simpson has hit out at allegations she wasted thousands of dollars when she visited U.S. soldiers in Kuwait, so she could maintain her lavish beauty regimen.

Simpson was reported to have spent an estimated $16,000 (£8,000) having her personal make-up and hair teams flown to the Middle East with her in March (08).

But the singer insists she went out of her way to experience life without luxury.

She says, "I stayed in the barracks, wore flip-flops in the shower - I roughed it like a soldier.

"It (the reports) hurts. It takes away from why I'm there - just to be able to sign stuff that (soldiers) can send home to their families. To make them smile. I wore my Daisy Dukes. All of the guys were so cute. They were like, 'Thank you for wearing your Daisy Dukes.'".

In seperate revelations the singer says she loves having her picture with boyfriend Tony Romo - because she enjoys seeing them grace the pages of tabloid magazines as a couple.

The pair has been dating for a mere five months, but Simpson insists she's already fallen for the American football star and refuses to shy away from the limelight in an effort to hide her romance from the public.
